Three Generations of a Hagerstown Family Enjoy the Western Maryland Rail Trail Which is Similar to the Proposed CWRT. Notice this rail tail is accessible to the handicapped, unlike other trails and parks in Washington County. The WMRT has been very successful -- it has been extended three times since it was first established.

Historical Plaque Explaining the Confederate Ransom of Hagerstown located at the north end of CWRT. CWRT has a rich history of Civil War events along its entire 23 mile length. A local historical organization, SHAF, has offered to provide many plaques for the CWRT. Hagerstown has some 50 Civil War interpretive panels.
